A Tuscaloosa man has been charged with murder in the death of a 1-year-old who may have drowned in a bath tub Friday morning.Christopher Cornelius Pearson, 27, was charged with murder in the death of Omari Jones-Pearce. Tuscaloosa marks 100th anniversary of boating accident that left 26 dead

Outside of the descendants of the victims, not many people in Tuscaloosa know the story of the wreck of the Mary Frances.It was a Sunday afternoon 100 years ago when the 40-foot yacht overturned after taking a sharp turn in the Black Warrior River, killing 26 of the passengers — mostly children — on board.Over the years, the tragedy that shook the community has been largely forgotten. The following article appeared in Summer 2001 issue of Alabama Heritage magazine and is being used with their permission. Author Frances Tucker collaborated with retired attorney Rufus Bealle, who provided letters written by several survivors of the wreck. Tucker researched articles published in The Tuscaloosa News in the days following the disaster to compile this account.


The lift bridge that crossed the Black Warrior River from Northport to Tuscaloosa was built in 1922 and was in use until the early 1970s when the Hugh Thomas Bridge was built. That's when a photo is taken up a women's skirt or blouse without her consent.The bill sponsored by Republican state Sen.
